College Football 2024 Week 3 Preview: Old Habits Die Hard

Week 2 Recap

Week 2 of the 2024 season followed the example of Week 1, with more than a few ranked teams struggling against weaker (on paper) opponents, with a few upsets (looking at you Notre Dame), and ridiculous offensive numbers sprinkled in. Week 3 will see some old rivalries continue despite realignment and a smattering of inter-state matchups. On paper there’s only two ranked-on-ranked matchups and a bunch of 30-point spreads. Of course, last week turned out to be a lot more interesting than I anticipated, so let’s hope that Week 3 can produce in a similar way.

Most Interesting Matchups

Oregon at Oregon State: The Battle for Oregon continues despite the loss of conference stakes, and you’ll find that there is no love lost between the Ducks and Beavers regardless.

Washington State @ Washington: Much like Oregon-Oregon State, the Apple Cup will play on despite realignment. If anything, the Huskies’ move to the Big Ten gives the Cougars a bit of extra motivation to prove that they still belong in the realm of college football’s power teams.

Texas A&M @ Florida: Two SEC teams burdened by recent mediocrity will keep each other company down in the Swamp this Saturday.

Arizona @ Kansas State: Friday night brings us two ranked teams looking to make noise in the Big 12, with the winner taking the early conference lead.

FCS Game of the Week

Incarnate Word @ Southern Illinois , 9/14, 7PM, ESPN+

The Cardinals of Incarnate Word and the Southern Illinois Salukis are both ranked in the FCS Top 15 – this should be a fun way to start off a Saturday evening football watch session.

Selected Pick ATS

  • Arizona (+7.5) @ Kansas State
  • Alabama @ Wisconsin (+15)
  • LSU (-7) @ South Carolina
  • Boston College @ Missou
