College Football 2024 Week 7 Preview: The Die is Cast

Week 6 Recap

A gauntlet of blockbuster games awaits us this week after a majority of the Top 25 seemed to have more trouble than expected during week 6. Alabama and Tennessee suffered historic upsets, Miami needed a miracle comeback to sneak past Cal, Michigan and USC appear to have hit a wall, and the Big 12 is still wide open. Rivalries and ranked games feature this weekend, and if last week proved anything, we can never predict exactly what will happen. All I have to say is that Army and Navy both deserve to be ranked and the polls make no sense.

Most Interesting Matchups

Ohio State @ Oregon: In what could be a preview of the Big Ten championship game, the Buckeyes and Ducks will look to assert themselves atop the Big Ten. The winner has an inside track to Indianapolis, while the loser will be forced to play catch-up.

Penn State @ USC: The Trojans will look to shake off an ugly loss at Minnesota, while the Nittany Lions want to shake off some rust from wins against Illinois and UCLA. USC may be all but out of contention with a loss, but playing spoiler may be the next best thing.

Texas @ Oklahoma: The Red River Silvery will feature a team ranked at #1 for the first time since 2008. Texas is the big favorite on paper, but this game rarely ever goes as expected.

Ole Miss @ LSU: A loss from either of these teams all but eliminates them from conference title and (most likely) playoff contention. There just isn’t any more margin for error anymore in the middle of the SEC pack.

Kansas State @ Colorado: Don’t look now, but Coach Prime has led the Buffaloes to the same amount of wins through 5 games as the entirety of last season. A win against the Wildcats would do wonders for them in the Big 12 race.

FCS Game of the Week

Harvard @ Cornell, 10/11, 6PM, ESPN2

Let’s have some fun with this week’s pick with a battle of the nerds! Big Red and Crimson will collide to decide who has the better shade of red as a mascot and the better Ivy League athletics program.
