College Football 2024 Week 8 Preview: Clarity from Chaos

Week 7 Recap

After the upset-filled Week 6, Week 7 seemed poised to be a bit of a letdown. Thankfully for college football fans, that proved to be far from the case. A bevy of teams won one-score thrillers, a few Big Ten and SEC teams were all but eliminated from playoff contention, and we closed the first half of the season with a bang. Week 8 features a marquee match to determine the top of the SEC, as well as several teams jockeying for position down the stretch. Who will prove themselves as legitimate contenders and who will flame out down the stretch? Let’s find out.

Most Interesting Matchups

Georgia vs Texas: The Longhorns are #1 and looking to prove that the new kids on the block are the top dogs in the SEC. The Bulldogs are still shaking off that heartbreaker against Alabama and would love to keep a hold on their top five spot.

Alabama vs Tennessee: Alabama has been playing remarkably inconsistent football over the last month, while Tennessee is reeling from a few close calls (and an upset) of its own. Both teams know what’s at stake in Knoxville this Saturday, as the loser is all but out of the SEC title race.

Nebraska vs Indiana: Curt Cignetti has the Hoosiers at 6-0 and right in the thick of the Big Ten race at the halfway point. Can Indiana prove that they weren’t just buoyed by a weak schedule and can hang with the top of the Big Ten, or will the Cornhuskers have something to say about that?

Michigan @ Illinois: The Wolverines offense has been a tad sluggish over the past few weeks and the Illini managed to give up 49 points to one of the worst teams in the Big Ten. All of that should result in some fun old-fashioned Big Ten smash mouth football.

FCS Game of the Week

Rhode Island @ New Hampshire, 10/19, 1PM

The battle of small New England states is on the docket for this Saturday afternoon as the Rams and Wildcats battle it out in Durham.
