College Football 2024 Week 14 Preview: One More Show for the Road

Week 13 Recap

This is it, everyone. One final chance to make your mark before the postseason begins. For the top half of the SEC, they’ll hope to avoid the mass of upsets that plagued them last week in order to secure multiple at-large spots. The Big 12 is a four-team (possibly nine-team) race, with the seemingly insane Arizona State – Iowa State matchup being the most likely outcome. The ACC and Big Ten only have three teams left in contention each, and there will be constant hot takes on ESPN about how a 3-loss Alabama is a better team than all six of them. It also happens to be rivalry week, and a few teams would like nothing better than to play spoiler for their respective opponents and earn an entire offseason worth of bragging rights.

Most Interesting Matchups

Michigan vs Ohio State: The Game returns to the gridiron this weekend for the 120th time. Despite lower stakes (and a larger spread) than recent meetings, absolutely everything can, will, and have happened in a game of this magnitude.

South Carolina vs Clemson: Don’t look now, but the Gamecocks are on a five-game win streak and go up against a Tiger team that still has a path to the ACC Championship game (with some help). Clemson’s only road to a playoff berth appears to run through Charlotte, so they’ll be plenty motivated to make at statement Saturday afternoon.

Auburn vs Alabama: Much like the aforementioned Michigan-Ohio State game, the Iron Bowl is rarely ever straightforward. The last few editions have featured miracle comebacks and overtime shenanigans, and this specific Crimson Tide team seems ripe for an upset at the hands of a Tigers team with almost nothing left to lose.

Texas vs Texas A&M: The Aggies saw their playoff hopes take a massive hit after a shocking loss to Auburn and are in full desperation mode. With all the chaos below them, the Longhorns are somehow still at the top of the SEC standings and a win would lock up their spot in Atlanta. A loss, meanwhile, would hand that spot to the Aggies.

FCS Game of the Week

Grambling State @ Southern, 11/30, 2PM

The SWAC rivals meet in the Superdome to decide the winner of the Bayou Classic, complete with the elaborately choreographed Battle of the Bands (and drum lines!) the day before. Both events should be an excellent addition to Thanksgiving celebrations.
